Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

This class incorporates game based learning & the beginning of partner training. Your children will be learning how to apply the fundamental movements of Jiu Jitsu. In this way your children will learn both muscle memory responses, as well as how to defend against their partner. All of which encourages self esteem, confidence, friendship and most importantly the practice of patience. They will learn to be calm and think through the steps of outsmarting their opponent. All of these skills are the basics of self defense.

Leonardo da Silva

The head instructor at Rapadura Jiu Jitsu | 4th degree black belt, Leonardo Da Silva.

Professor Leo trains under 9x World Champion "Formiga" professor Rafael Formiga Barbosa of Double five Jiu jitsu. Leo, began training Jiu Jitsu at a very young age. This sport quickly became a passion and his desire to continue practicing the art of Jiu Jitsu has never faded. "Jiujitsu has held my attention all these years because the opportunity to learn and grow is endless. Every moment on the mat with every partner is a new challenge. Every chance I have to share my technique is also an opportunity to learn. Even the youngest white belt has something to teach us all."

Here at Rapadura, Jiu Jitsu is more than just a form of self defense or exercise. For us, we believe it is a way of life. We want to share our passion and joy for the art of Jiu Jitsu.  See for yourself,  join us on the mat where we learn, fail & achieve progress Together.

Tyler aka tico tico (nicknamed by professor Leo years ago) is a long time personal friend of our family. We could not be more thrilled or proud to have him as part of our team of instructors here at Rapadura.

What you can expect:

Fitness: The foundation of a good striker is always cardio and endurance, this program provides ways to reach your individual fitness goals and continually challenge you to push through and reach levels you never thought possible. These fitness skills not only apply to overall health but is the foundation for all physical exercise. ​ Confidence: A universal truth of all martial arts is: Through learning a physical self defense technique we naturally build self confidence as well as improve our overall physical and mental health. While self-defense ability takes hard work and commitment, the confidence you gain every step of the way will be felt throughout your daily life. Self-defense: Most students are not looking to become professional competitors, and most hope to never actually trully need to defend themselves against an attacker. However, the ability to have proper technique, situational awareness, and an understanding of one’s own abilities is key to self-defense, and could be the difference in an emergency. ​ What to expect at your level: All classes are aged 13+ and require no previous experience. You can expect to hop right into a class if ready or take time to get comfortable with the basics with the instructor. Your first few classes will be treated as an introduction class. The instructor will learn each students fitness level and abilities while also learning your goals.
